YouTube videos coming to Android automotive cars

Google are introducing a new improvement to both Android Auto and Android Automotive, allowing those wanting Google-based services in their car to get new features, such as watching YouTube. Android Auto projects content from the users phone, whether through a wireless or wired connection. It Google’s “answer” to Apple’s CarPlay and will not work without the users phone. Android Automotive is a version that automatically runs in the car as the main infotainment, with or without a phone. Here’s a look into what’s new and coming for each of these systems: ANDROID AUTO: Google have announced Android Auto will be available in almost 200 million cars by the end of the year. The updates are not huge, however, will include [...]

YouTube tests redesign that brings Home feed to the video page

After a big redesign last year, YouTube might be embarking on its next visual revamp with changes to the video page, which has mostly stayed the same in recent years. Currently, on the web, you have a video window with the title and other details/descriptions appearing below it. In the redesign that a handful of people are seeing over the past few weeks, that information appears to the right of the video and is much narrower. Buttons for un/like, sharing, etc. also appear underneath, while you get five or so recent comments too. This makes for a very mobile-like interface. As such, Up Next videos and other recommendations no longer appear on the right edge of the screen. Rather, they [...]

YouTube TV is testing “Multiview” during March Madness

YouTube TV said last year that it was working on a multiview mode that would allow you to watch multiple channels at the same time. Now, that feature is available in a testing phase for March Madness. The company says that some “members have early access to this feature in the first round”. The feature is pretty straightforward, allowing you to watch four games in a 2×2 grid. This is pretty cool to have for the NCAA Tournament, which officially gets underway today with the first two games in the first four round. Currently, you’ll be able to select your desired viewing experience from the “Top Picks for you” carousel. But it’s important to note that during this preview, YouTube [...]

L’option [...]

YouTube tests suite of FAST channels YouTube is looking to introduce a range of FAST channels as its ambitions continue to lean further towards traditional video. Wall Street Journal reported the Alphabet company was in talks with a number of potential partners to include their films and TV shows. In launching its own FAST channels, YouTube would put itself in competition with international players Roku, Pluto TV and Tubi, and country-specific operations such as ITVX. FAST channels screen a mix of archive content and some more recent hits. For example, Pluto TV has debuted episodes on Star Trek on its platform as a means to promote the paid-for Paramount+. In the United States, YouTube has already established a marketplace for [...]

YouTube testing video queue on Android and iOS; here’s how to enable “Add to queue” is already available on the YouTube website, and it’s now in testing for the Android and iOS apps. At the moment, “Save to Watch later” or “Save to playlist” is how you can get back to something that you don’t want to view right away. However, these two options are more permanent and save things to your library, thus requiring manual removal after watching. A queue is more temporary, and the YouTube mobile apps are finally getting one. Once live, the three-dot overflow menu next to videos — YouTube Shorts don’t apply — will house a new “Play last in queue” option at the very [...]
