US consumer spending on video streaming services drops 25%

The amount spent by US consumers on video streaming services fell to $69 per month in 2022 from a high of $90 the previous year. The amount was identified in research from Parks Associates that showed the amount have fallen by 25% on the period between Q3 2022 and Q1 2021. Alexa can now make and receive calls through T-Mobile

Alexa now has the ability to let T-Mobile subscribers make and receive phone calls on dedicated devices hands-free. The new feature comes in the form of an Alexa skill, which can link your T-Mobile service directly to your Alexa Account. Slump predicted for US video service spend Research from Ampere Analysis is warning that 2023 will become known as the year when per-household spending on subscription streaming (SVOD) services in the US could no longer compensate for the continued decline in pay-TV and spend on video begins to shrink. US pay-TV majors accelerate subs losses in 2022

The downward trajectory of the US pay-TV industry continues unabated with a study from Leichtman Research Group (LRG) showing that major providers lost about 5.88 million subscribers in 2022, about 1.2 million more than in the previous year. The leading pay-TV providers, representing about 92% of the market, now account for about 70.2 million subscribers – with the top seven cable companies having about 37.8 million video subscribers, other traditional pay-TV services having 24.1 million subscribers, and the top publicly reporting Internet-delivered (vMVPD) pay-TV services having 8.3 million subscribers. AVOD to drive North America OTT growth North American OTT TV episode and movie revenues are forecast to reach $107 billion in 2028. This, according to the latest report from Digital TV Research, will be up from last year’s total of $74 billion. The US will contribute $30 billion from the $33 billion additional revenues, with Canada supplying the rest. New Starz-MGM+ bundle for US subscribers

Starz has announced a new partnership with Amazon to bundle MGM+ on Prime Video in the United States.
