Vodafone Deutschland adds Apple TV+ to GigaTV

Apple’s streaming service Apple TV+ is now available on Vodafone Deutschland’s TV platform. The Apple TV+ app can be used on the cable receiver GigaTV Cable Box 2 as well as on the GigaTV Net Box, which brings television to the screen via the internet. “With Apple TV+, we are now integrating another first-class streaming service onto the GigaTV platform, offering movie lovers a broad variety of high-quality series and films. Other popular services will follow,” said Marc Albers, Division Director Broadband at Vodafone Deutschland. Access to Apple TV+ costs €6.99 per month, the subscription is taken out via Apple – not via Vodafone. Vodafone also offers GigaTV in combination with the Apple TV 4K box (generation 3).

US video stack shrinks

As consumers express significant concerns about the state of the economy and rising inflation, some of them have turned to their video subscriptions as a means of saving money says a study from Hub Entertainment Research. HUb stacking 15JUne2023 Hub’s annual Best Bundle survey revealed that in 2023, for the first time, there was a year-on-year decline in the number of video sources viewers say they are using, something that the analyst said was of no surprise. Netflix dominates in Poland

Polish internet users who access streaming services spend half their time doing so watching Netflix. This, according to data produced by Gemius/PBI and published by Wirtualne Media, is over seven times as long as any other service. In May, Netflix claimed a 50.58% share of viewing time, with the next most popular services being Player (6.71%), Disney (6.09%) and TVP (6.03%). Netflix also achieved the highest reach among streaming services (33.60%), with Disney (9.97%) in second place. Source broadbandtvnews.com

Folx Network adds music channels to Rakuten TV

Music TV broadcaster Folx Network is now distributing its three channels Folx Music Television, Zwei Music Television and One Music Television on Rakuten TV in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The channels are offered free of charge on the streaming platform and smart TV app. Folx Music Television, Zwei Music Television and One Music Television were previously available on Zattoo, MagentaTV, waipu.tv and cliq.de, and Folx Music Television is also available via the Astra satellite system (19.2° East). Folx Music Television targets the fans of traditional German folk music (Volksmusik), while One Music Television focuses on German-language pop and rock music. Zwei Music Television shows current hits and classics from the world of German Schlager.

Google TV gets even more free streaming channels, but only on TCL

Free live TV has become especially popular in recent months, with a huge number of free channels built into Google TV. Now, TCL is adding even more free channels to its Google TV (and Roku TV) sets through new partnerships. In a press release today, TCL announced a partnership with Cineverse which will bring the free live TV provider’s “full lineup” to both Google TV and Roku TV sets from TCL. Cineverse offers “dozens” of live channels and over 10,000 on-demand movies and TV show episodes. Cineverse will offer TCL users access to the Company’s full portfolio of 30 streaming brands and FAST channels including content curated from Cineverse, the company’s flagship streaming service. Amazon Freevee signs FAST Channel deals with MGM and Warner Bros. Discovery

Amazon is expanding its slate of FAST channels with 12 MGM channels and a further 11 from Warner Bros. Discovery. The new channels will join the 280 ad supported FAST channels available as part of the Freevee. “FAST Channels offer Freevee viewers an always-on, 24/7, lean-back viewing experience that immediately connects them to a selection of TV shows, movies, and unscripted programming such as news, sports, and music,” said Ryan Pirozzi, head of Amazon Freevee. “MGM and Warner Bros. 49% of US adults watch video via connected TV daily

88% of US TV households have at least one internet-connected TV device, including connected Smart TVs, stand-alone streaming devices (like Roku, Amazon Fire TV sticks or boxes, Chromecast, or Apple TV), connected video game systems, and/or connected Blu-ray players. According to new consumer research from Leichtman Research Group, this compares to 82% with at least one connected TV device in 2021, 74% in 2018, and 44% in 2013. Overall, 49% of adults in US TV households watch video on a TV via a connected device daily – compared to 39% in 2021, 29% in 2018, and 6% in 2013. Google TV on Android 14 adds quite a few new features

Google TV just received the beta for Android 14 this week, and it adds more than a few new features to the platform. All of the new features available in the Android 14 beta for Google TV that have been discovered so far are focused on accessibility. Netgem intros Android TV UI revamp for Zeop multiscreen TV service

Digital video entertainment platform provider Netgem has undertaken a complete revamp of the Zeop TV service in La Reunion, with the latest versions of its multiscreen apps introducing more content and more features in a super-aggregator model. In its new move, Netgem believes that it is taking the opportunity to expand its entertainment service proposition for operators with the addition of an Android TV Operator Tier solution, taking the Netgem TV user interface to Android TV boxes.
