Bedrock

Bedrock extends 6play max to more big screens The streaming technology company Bedrock has extended the French ad-free streaming service 6play max to Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and LG connected TVs. The announcement comes a few months after the service was launched on web, mobile, Android TV, and Samsung smart TVs. This upgrade allows 6play to reach its 25 million active users on almost all the OTT installed bases in France, providing users with advanced features such as ad-free, Download-to-Go for offline use on mobile, HD quality, Cast to TV, 30-day programme and more freedom of use. Zattoo

Zattoo adds FAST channels from Mainstream Media TV streaming provider Zattoo has added three FAST channels from Mainstream Media AG to its line-up in Germany. World of Freesports, Starke Frauen and Filmgold are included in all packages. Ultimate and Premium subscribers can pause, restart and watch the channels’ content in a 7-day catch-up window. With the move, Zattoo is expanding its partnership with Mainstream Media AG. Zattoo already offers the Munich-based media company’s pay-TV channels Romance TV, Goldstar TV and Heimatkanal in the Fernsehen mit Herz subscription package.

FuboTV rebrands as Fubo

The sports-first live streaming platform FuboTV has rebranded its consumer-facing products as Fubo. According to the company, the move reflects its emphasis on efficient growth. It adds that Fubo was the fastest-growing virtual MVPD in the fourth quarter 2022, achieving 251,000 net subscriber additions compared to a total of 371,000 additions amongst all reporting companies in the space. Fubo’s growing market share, coupled with its recent number one ranking in customer satisfaction among live TV streaming providers by J.D. Power, is a result of its commitment to delivering a premium customer experience. You can now buy a TV that’s entirely made by Roku

Roku now makes its own TVs. The Roku Select and Plus series televisions were announced at CES in January and hit shelves this week. There are 11 Roku TVs in total, spanning two different lineups and ranging between 24 and 75 inches. Prices start at $150 and top out at $1,200. These new Roku models are currently available only in Best Buy stores or online. The Roku Select series is the basic line, available in a mix of HD and 4K models. Netflix, Hulu, Disney+ head streaming users’ most essential services

Research from Aluma Insights has found that two-thirds of Netflix buyers view the service as fundamental to meeting household video needs, with only Hulu and Disney+ also having the majority of users considering the service essential instead of just nice to have. The data comes from a December 2022 survey of 1,947 US adult broadband users in charge of purchasing media services for their household and that watch SVOD services on TV. Aluma balanced the sample to represent SVOD viewers and their households. Video services struggle for differentiation

Even though there is a crowded streaming marketplace with more providers and content competing for viewers’ awareness, time and money and despite a torrent of marketing, viewers don’t know what makes one brand different from another says Hub Entertainment Research. Big fall in Western European pay-TV revenues

Western European pay-TV revenues are forecast to decline by nearly $5 billion, or 18%, between 2022 and 2028. As a result, according to the latest report by Digital TV Research, they will total $22 billion in five years’ time. It adds that the pay-TV subscriber count will drop by 7%, so revenues will fall faster – revealing lower TV ARPUs and less emphasis on TV from the operators. The reports also says that pay-TV revenues will fall in every country in the region except Malta between 2022 and 2028. The UK and France, for instance, will each decline by $1 billion. Sky Deutschland switches more SD channels to HD

German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland will continue the SD switch-off of TV channels in favour of HD-only distribution on March 22, 2023. The switchover, which will take place automatically and at no extra cost to subscribers, will affect 27 channels from the Sky Cinema, Sky Sport and Sky Fußball Bundesliga brands: Sky Cinema: Sky Cinema Premieres SD, Sky Cinema Premieres +24 SD, Sky Cinema Best Of SD, Sky Cinema Action SD and Sky Cinema Family SD.
