TiVo’s Android TV dongle has lost Sling TV integration

In 2020 TiVo launched a new Android TV dongle that brought support for content aggregation well ahead of Google’s effort to do the same in Google TV later that year. Now, though, the TiVo Stream 4K that introduced that vision is losing one of its key features: integration with Sling TV. The TiVo Stream 4K is an Android TV dongle that’s still sold for $40. Like other Android TV OS devices, it can install apps for various streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, and others, as well as other Android apps and use the Google Assistant. Rakuten TV launches own FAST channels

Streaming platform Rakuten TV has entered the TV series landscape by launching a reality/factual entertainment channel in the UK and Crime series channels in DACH, France, Italy and Spain. Real Series and Crime made their debuts in the UK and Italy respectively on April 12. All channels will be available not only on the Rakuten TV platform and also on Samsung’s TV Plus service and More FAST platforms to follow. TV streaming sees highest growth in 5 months

A study by Barclays Bank has shown that while grocery spending tracking far below food price inflation, digital content & subscriptions has seen its highest growth since October 2022. Spending on digital content and subscriptions increased by 4.1%, driven by the latest season premieres of popular shows such as Succession, Ted Lasso and The Mandalorian. Esme Harwood, Director at Barclays, said: “The below-inflation rise in grocery spending shows that Brits are still trying their hardest to shave money off their weekly shop, as energy bills continue to rise. Smart TVs pass 200 MN milestone

Confirming smart TVs’ growth in presence and in use, the fifth annual wave of Hub Entertainment Research’s Connected Home study has revealed that American homes now own an estimated 204 million smart TV sets. The Connected Home 2023 report was based on a survey conducted among 5,026 US consumers in February 2023 and cover consumer ownership of many types of media-related technologies. A top line finding was that smart TV ownership continues to climb with over a majority of all TV sets – six in ten (61%) –now reported to be smart sets, up from 45% in 2020 with TV homes reporting an average of 1.7 smart TVs per home. Les professionnels de Hollywood plutôt satisfaits de l'interface et de l'expérience utilisateur d'Apple TV+ Apple TV+ ne s'en sort pas si mal au petit jeu des comparaisons avec les autres services de streaming organisé par Variety. La publication spécialisée a demandé à 40 représentants de l'industrie hollywoodienne — producteurs, scénaristes, financiers… — ce qu'ils pensaient non pas des contenus des plateformes, mais de leur interface et de leur expérience utilisateur. Google TV propose désormais plus de 800 chaînes gratuites financées par la publicité

À partir d'aujourd'hui, Google TV ajoute des centaines de nouvelles chaînes de streaming à son écran d'accueil, toutes disponibles gratuitement.
