waipu.tv reaches 1 million subscribers

German TV streaming provider waipu.tv has passed the one million paying customer mark. In addition, there are more than three million users of the free offer, according to Munich-based operator Exaring. Besides its B2C platform, the company also supplies mobile network operators and cable operators with a TV product as a B2B service with customers including parent company Freenet as well as o2, Deutsche Glasfaser (following the shutdown of its own TV service BrightBlue) and local internet providers.

The big-name streaming services had a really good run. The likes of Netflix, Hulu, HBO Max, Disney Plus, Apple TV Plus, and all the other Pluses have spent the last decade upending the way we make and consume movies and shows and changing the whole business of Hollywood in the process. Canal+ launches Czech/Slovak streaming platform

Canal+ Group has reinforced its presence in the Czech Republic and Slovakia by launching a new streaming platform under the Canal+ brand. After the introduction of the Canal+ Sport channel in August 2022 to host the exclusive rights of English Premier League matches and Canal+ Action just recently in the two countries, Canal+ is now offering content within its digital platform, mixing European films and series, international blockbusters, local productions, or content related to the Premier League. HbbTV updates Test Suite and DASH DRM

The HbbTV Association has released of updated versions of the HbbTV Test Suite and the DASH DRM Reference Application. According to the association, the 2023-1 HbbTV Test Suite, developed by the HbbTV Testing Group, is the first major release for this year and includes 61 newly approved tests as well as bug fixes and improvements to another 113 previously approved test cases. It adds that the HbbTV Test Suite now provides a total 2,987 tests of which 2,385 are approved. HbbTV aims to continuously improve the quality and coverage of the Test Suite and is actively developing test cases for new features for inclusion in future releases. Global AVOD to grow by $50bn

Global AVOD revenues for TV series and movies will reach $91 billion in 2028. This, according to the latest report from Digital TV Research, will be up from $41 billion in 2022. It adds that the US will contribute 41% to the 2028 total, adding $20 billion between 2022 and 2028. The report goes on to say that by 2028 nine platforms will generate AVOD revenues in excess of $3 billion, including five global, three from the US and one from China. The market will remain fragmented. Bouygues Telecom propose l’expérience du Live Shopping sur TV à ses clients

Bouygues Telecom annonce le déploiement de son application B-Live shopping. Les utilisateurs peuvent désormais accéder, directement depuis l'interface de leurs box, à des sessions de ventes en ligne et animées de grandes marques. Une première en Europe. Selon la Fevad, le live shopping représentera 20 % de l'e-commerce d'ici à 2026. Face à cette évolution des habitudes d'achat et en accord avec sa stratégie d'innovation, Bouygues Telecom a développé l'application B-Live Shopping qui propose à 270 000 de ses clients Bbox des sessions de ventes en ligne animée de grandes marques telles que Monoprix, la Redoute ou encore Decathlon. myCanal ne lésine pas sur la qualité pour les contenus d’Apple TV+

Depuis hier, les abonnés Canal+ peuvent accéder au catalogue d’Apple TV+ directement depuis l’app myCanal, sans surcoût. Une bonne nouvelle pour économiser l’abonnement au service d’Apple ? Il restait malgré tout un motif d’inquiétude sur la qualité du contenu diffusé par l’app française. Apple a mis le paquet sur le plan technique pour offrir une image et un son excellents et on pouvait se demander si myCanal allait respecter ces exigences. Bonne nouvelle, il semble bien que le groupe Canal n’a pas triché avec la qualité des vidéos. Peacock loses $704 million

Peacock Loses $704 Million, Reaches 22 Million Subscribers Days after Comcast fired NBCUniversal’s Jeff Shell, the company held its first-quarter earnings call, addressing the former CEO’s departure and Peacock’s growing losses. Brian Roberts, chairman of NBCU’s parent company, didn’t shy away from the Shell news, telling investors Thursday morning that the firing was “obviously a tough moment” for the organization.
