Sky boosts Sky Glass, Sky Stream experiences

To celebrate the start of the Women’s World Cup which will see a particular spike in viewers when the England Lionesses take to the field, broadcaster Sky has unveiled a number of new experience features for its Entertainment OS platform, all on the Sky Glass and Sky Stream products. A range of voice commands head the key features. Viewers can use phrases like ‘Lionesses’ and ‘It’s Coming Home’ for live games, catch-up, highlights and results tables for the Women’s Football World Cup. Sky introduces camera for Sky Glass

Sky has released its planned Sky Live ‘interactive’ camera that will enable Sky Glass households to interact with family and friends. The product was promised at the launch of the integrated streaming TV in October 2021. Sky Live will enable users to interact with family and friends through video calls or use the Watch Together button on screen to have them watch the latest shows as if there were with you in the room. The body tracking technology makes it possible to play motion control games or attempt to get fit with a workout. Sky launches smart home insurance package

Sky has announced the launch of a new smart home protection service that offers customers home insurance and smart home tech worth £250. The Sky Protect Smart Home Insurance package is underwritten by Zurich Insurance and features a suite of smart home tech products including a video doorbell, indoor camera, leak detectors, motion sensor and contact sensors. Sky Deutschland switches more SD channels to HD

German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland will continue the SD switch-off of TV channels in favour of HD-only distribution on March 22, 2023. Sky to charge streaming viewers to skip ads Sky has begun to charge viewers on its Sky Stream and Sky Go products to fast forward through the commercials. The Ad Skipping pack has previously been free, but as of December 1 has attracted a £5 monthly fee, unless subscribers choose to opt out.
