Roku and Shopify partnership brings easy checkout to streaming TV

Roku, one of the earliest streaming services to debut shoppable experiences, is rolling out new offerings. Top line Shopify and Roku are expanding their existing partnership in what they say is a first-of-its-kind offering that will let customers purchase products from Shopify merchants through Roku Action Ads. Roku’s new $100 home security system can send video to your TV

Customers will have the ability to monitor their home from their Roku Sticks and TVs. Roku introduced a home security starter kit on Wednesday as part of its expanding smart home product lineup. The Roku Home Monitoring System SE has a price tag of $100 and comes with a motion detector, wireless keypad, two entry sensors and an alarm. It's the latest addition to a line that includes security cameras, video doorbells and smart lights. Customers can order the system on Roku's website starting today, and the kit will be on sale at Walmart beginning May 15. Roku Ekes Out Q1 Revenue Growth of 1%, Streaming Accounts Grow More Than Expected to Hit 71.6 Million Roku came in above analyst estimates on the top line for the first quarter of 2023, as it gained 1.6 million active streaming accounts in the period — also above Wall Street expectations. But the company told investors that the macroeconomic environment was still “challenged” in the quarter. Viaplay launches on Roku devices in the US, Canada and the UK

A recent report from SVB MoffettNathanson suggested that the future for Roku will depend heavily on monetising connected TV and streaming, and as part of this drive it has inked a multi-year partnership with Viaplay Group in the UK, US and Canada. The new deal with the Nordic streamer will see Viaplay’s premium service available for subscription through Roku devices in the US, Canada and the UK. You can now buy a TV that’s entirely made by Roku

Roku now makes its own TVs. The Roku Select and Plus series televisions were announced at CES in January and hit shelves this week. There are 11 Roku TVs in total, spanning two different lineups and ranging between 24 and 75 inches. Prices start at $150 and top out at $1,200. These new Roku models are currently available only in Best Buy stores or online. The Roku Select series is the basic line, available in a mix of HD and 4K models. Warner Music Launches First Free FAST Channels, Exclusively on Roku Channel Warner Music Group has punched its way into the free, ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) segment, with the launch of a trio of genre-based channels exclusively on the Roku Channel.
