Spotify now has 220 million paying subscribers

A day after announcing price increases for the US and other global markets, the audio streaming service has revealed its latest financial results. Spotify had 220 million Premium subscribers and 551 million monthly active users as of June 30th, the company announced today in its latest earnings report. That represents a 27 and 17 percent increase, respectively, compared to the same period last year and is above its outlook released last quarter. But while listener numbers were up, Spotify reports that it’s making less revenue on average from each of them. Sportworld launches in over 190 countries

Sports aggregation platform Sportworld is launching in over 190 countries on Samsung smart TVs and mobile devices (iOS/Android) at the occasion of the FIFA Women’s World Cup. Sportworld, which German app developer B1 SmartTV introduced in German-speaking countries in May 2022, provides access to sports content – live, linear, on-demand, paid or free. Tiki, une application de vidéos courtes populaire en Inde, tire aussi sa révérence

TikTok a été banni de l’Inde en 2020. Depuis, différentes plateformes de vidéos courtes ont essayé de s’approprier sa part de marché, mais en vain. Tiki fait partie de l’une d’elles. Malheureusement, elle va aussi devoir tirer sa révérence. D’autres applications avant elle, ont dû aussi mettre la clé sous la porte en Inde. Times Internet a vendu l’activité vidéo courte de MX Player à ShareChat l’année dernière. Xiaomi a fermé son service de vidéos courtes en début de mois dans le pays. Netflix dominates in Poland

Polish internet users who access streaming services spend half their time doing so watching Netflix. This, according to data produced by Gemius/PBI and published by Wirtualne Media, is over seven times as long as any other service. In May, Netflix claimed a 50.58% share of viewing time, with the next most popular services being Player (6.71%), Disney (6.09%) and TVP (6.03%). SVOD to gain 400m subs

Global SVOD subscriptions are forecast increase by 400 million between 2022 and 2028 to reach 1.76 billion. This, according to the latest report from Digital TV Research, reveals that there is still plenty of SVOD growth left. By 2028, 24 countries will have more than 10 million SVOD subscriptions. The report adds that six US-based platforms will have 972 million SVOD subscribers by 2028 (55% of the world’s total), up from 711 million in 2022. Much of this fast growth will come from the younger platforms completing their global rollouts. Canal+ launches Czech/Slovak streaming platform

Canal+ Group has reinforced its presence in the Czech Republic and Slovakia by launching a new streaming platform under the Canal+ brand. After the introduction of the Canal+ Sport channel in August 2022 to host the exclusive rights of English Premier League matches and Canal+ Action just recently in the two countries, Canal+ is now offering content within its digital platform, mixing European films and series, international blockbusters, local productions, or content related to the Premier League. Global AVOD to grow by $50bn

Global AVOD revenues for TV series and movies will reach $91 billion in 2028. This, according to the latest report from Digital TV Research, will be up from $41 billion in 2022. It adds that the US will contribute 41% to the 2028 total, adding $20 billion between 2022 and 2028. The report goes on to say that by 2028 nine platforms will generate AVOD revenues in excess of $3 billion, including five global, three from the US and one from China. Rakuten TV launches own FAST channels

Streaming platform Rakuten TV has entered the TV series landscape by launching a reality/factual entertainment channel in the UK and Crime series channels in DACH, France, Italy and Spain. Real Series and Crime made their debuts in the UK and Italy respectively on April 12. All channels will be available not only on the Rakuten TV platform and also on Samsung’s TV Plus service and More FAST platforms to follow. New Starz-MGM+ bundle for US subscribers

Starz has announced a new partnership with Amazon to bundle MGM+ on Prime Video in the United States.
