Here’s Why Android users flocking to iOS face steep learning curve

In a tech landscape dominated by fierce debates between Android and iOS users, it is interesting to see what happens when users do the jump. PhoneArena reports that more Android users are making the leap to iOS than ever before, reaching the highest point in five years. However, this transition may not be as seamless as expected. A new report from smartphone comparison service Green Smartphones reveals that many first-time iOS users encounter a steep learning curve when adapting to Apple's operating system. Let's dive into the details. Android's Intuitive Interface One key aspect that sets Android apart from iOS is its user interface. According to data, many iOS users struggle with basic smartphone functions such as setting up voice [...]

Google Play Movies & TV is finally dead, as Android TV replaces it with ‘Shop’ tab

Over a decade after it first launched, Google is about to pull the final plug from Google Play Movies & TV as the Android TV app is replaced with a new “Shop” tab. Google Play Movies & TV first launched in 2011 as a way to rent or buy movies and TV shows and add them to your library. The service has been a steady and popular option over the years, and came with the perk of syncing your purchases to other Google products such as YouTube. In 2020, Google hinted that the end was soon to come for Play Movies when it debuted Google TV. The platform didn’t have a Play Movies app and instead relied on a “Library” [...]

Google TV and Android TV apps get a new design language

When Android TV debuted back in 2014, many apps on the platform shared the same design language, but that disappeared over time as that UI became dated. Now, at I/O 2023, Google is introducing a new set of components for app developers to speed up developing apps for Android TV OS that brings a new look for those apps. Google is introducing a new set of design guidelines for apps built for Android TV OS – the underlying platform for Android TV and Google TV. The new guidelines give developers a point of reference when designing for the platform and include a few key elements: Buttons Cards Featured carousel Immersive lists (with visual content) Lists (with text content) Navigation drawer [...]

YouTube tests redesign that brings Home feed to the video page

After a big redesign last year, YouTube might be embarking on its next visual revamp with changes to the video page, which has mostly stayed the same in recent years. Currently, on the web, you have a video window with the title and other details/descriptions appearing below it. In the redesign that a handful of people are seeing over the past few weeks, that information appears to the right of the video and is much narrower. Buttons for un/like, sharing, etc. also appear underneath, while you get five or so recent comments too. This makes for a very mobile-like interface. As such, Up Next videos and other recommendations no longer appear on the right edge of the screen. Rather, they [...]

Android auto

Android Auto Tweak Puts You In The Driver’s Seat A tweak to Android Auto is putting vital info in your reach by allowing you to further customise, so you have the option to put the most used widgets closer to the driver’s side. Building on the split-screen interface that surfaced in January to resemble the look of Apple CarPlay, Google are now adding the ability to switch widget orientation. When connected to Android Auto, you can now select the settings cog on the car unit and go to the “change layout” menu, then you can choose between “Navigation closer to the driver” and “Media closer to the driver”. Reports say you can alter the setting through your Android phone via [...]

Google Home app Wi-Fi

Google Home app Wifi controls get redesigned devices list [Gallery] As part of the Home app Public Preview, Google has redesigned Wifi controls with the list of connected devices seeing the big upgrade. On the Wi-Fi page, tapping the Devices tile, which is now the only place that notes a total count, opens an entirely new page. The Devices list is no longer a tab within the Network page shared by “Internet Speed” and “Points.” (That’s now “Network performance” instead of “Network history.”) Tapping the top-left corner opens a “Sort by” sheet that defaults to “Real time” as “Total Mbps” appears opposite. There’s also the ability to see 1 day, 7 days, and 30 days, with Google Home now noting [...]
