HbbTV updates Test Suite and DASH DRM

The HbbTV Association has released of updated versions of the HbbTV Test Suite and the DASH DRM Reference Application. According to the association, the 2023-1 HbbTV Test Suite, developed by the HbbTV Testing Group, is the first major release for this year and includes 61 newly approved tests as well as bug fixes and improvements to another 113 previously approved test cases. It adds that the HbbTV Test Suite now provides a total 2,987 tests of which 2,385 are approved. HbbTV aims to continuously improve the quality and coverage of the Test Suite and is actively developing test cases for new features for inclusion in future releases. HbbTV releases new version of core specification

The HbbTV Association has updated its core specification for the delivery of advanced interactive TV services through broadcast and broadband networks for connected TV sets and set-top boxes. Version 2.0.4 adds integration with voice assistants, with accessibility features, such as dialogue enhancement or user interface magnification. Also included are the new DVB-I standard, enabling HbbTV Red Button applications to be used with live and linear TV services received as a DVB-I stream via broadband networks. Their availability depends on the TV set or set-top box supporting the underlying feature. HbbTV takes off in Poland

The number of homes in Poland with an active HbbTV connection has now passed 1.3 million. Speaking to Wirtualne Media, Jaroslaw Mroczkowski, the strategic advisor at the national transmission company Emitel, added that a milestone in HbbTV development took place in December 2018 with the launch of a service aimed at the supporters of the football club Legia Warsaw. This proved to be very popular among DTT viewers and caught the attention of broadcasters, who could see the potential of HbbTV. Emitel launched its first HbbTV service in 2016, since when they have been also introduced by the public broadcaster TVP and leading national commercial stations Polsat and TVN.
