‘Hey Disney!’ voice assistant is now available on US Echo devices

Amazon and Disney have announced that Hey Disney! — the custom voice assistant created for Walt Disney resort locations — can now be added to Echo devices in the US for a fee. Also known as the Disney Magical Companion, Hey Disney! is the first Alexa custom assistant to be made available for “select Amazon Echo devices” (we’ve asked for a list) in your home, providing an array of Disney, Pixar, and Star Wars character voices like BB-8, Minnie Mouse, and Fozzie Bear as well as Disney-flavored responses to things like weather reports, timers, and alarms. Disney+ loses 4m subs

Walt Disney’s streaming service Disney+ had a total of 157.8 million paid subscribers as of April 1. This, according to the company’s latest results, was 4 million fewer than the same period last year. The loss was almost entirely attributable to Disney+ Hotstar, which saw its paid subscriber total dip by 8% from 57.5 million to 52.9 million, over the period. Meanwhile, Disney+ had 46.3 million subscribers in its domestic (US and Canada) unit, down 1% on a year earlier, while the international operation, excluding Hotstar, saw its subscriber total increase by 2% to 58.6 million. Disney+’s ad-supported tier launches today with Chromecast and Android TV support; no Roku After months of hearing about it, Disney+ has today launched its “Basic with ads” tier that lets customers save some money in exchange for sitting through a few ads. It launches with support for both of Google’s big-screen platforms, but won’t work on Roku for the time being. Available as of today, December 8, Disney+ is offering its service with ads starting at $7.99 per month. That cost gets you the core Disney+ streaming service, while bundles offer Disney+ and Hulu for $9.99/month, adding ESPN+ for a total of $12.99/month.
