Google TV’s biggest partner, TCL, is overtaking LG as the world’s second-largest TV brand The biggest partner for Google TV, TCL, has reportedly surpassed LG as the largest TV brand (behind Samsung). Business Korea reports, citing data from Omdia, that the TV market currently sees TCL as the second-place slot in terms of units sold. TCL makes up 11.7% of the market, where LG is behind at 11.69%. Currently, the difference is reportedly around 30,000 units. But the trend is becoming clear at this point that TCL is taking LG’s spot. Sunrise launches OTT sports service with Green Streams Swiss telco Sunrise, a subsidiary of Liberty Global, has launched a new OTT premium pay-TV service on the Green Streams backend platform. The new MySports app provides subscribers with access to exclusive content such as the Swiss Hockey National League, the North American National Hockey League (NHL) or the FIA Formula E World Championship. New Starz-MGM+ bundle for US subscribers

Starz has announced a new partnership with Amazon to bundle MGM+ on Prime Video in the United States. FilmBox+ unveils

FilmBox+ unveils Smart Channels SPI International’s streaming service FilmBox+ has launched Smart Channels, specially curated playlists of on-demand content that play back-to-back in a similar fashion to traditional linear channels. These channels are fully digital and are exclusive to the FilmBox+ platform. In addition to FilmBox+’s VOD catalogue and linear channels, subscribers can now stream Smart Channels that are genre-specific or dedicated to particular content, actors or directors. FilmBox+ has rolled out 157 smart channels so far globally as well as across SPI’s core territories such as Europe, Adria region, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Turkey, with channel availability varying by territory. Streaming services up spend on sports rights

Subscription OTT services’ spend on sports rights globally is forecast to reach $8.5 billion this year. According to a new report by Ampere Analysis, this will be a 64% increase on the total in 2022. The research also predicts that the share of spend on sports rights by streaming platforms will increase in 2023 to reach 21% of global sports rights investment, up from 13% in 2022. Quarterly fall in UK SVOD take-up

Newly released data from Barb’s Establishment Survey shows 19.42 million UK homes (67.7% of households) had access to a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service in Q4 2022. This represents a decrease of -0.6% decrease from 19.54 million in Q3 2022. Netflix and NOW saw quarterly drops in the number of UK homes with access to their services. 17.15 million homes had access to Netflix in Q4 2022, down -0.7% from 17.27 million in Q3 2022. And 1.88 million homes had access to NOW in Q4 2022, a decline of -7.6% from 2.04 million in Q3 2022. Tubi sees 44% growth in total viewing time, surpasses 5BN streaming hours Tubi has released its annual audience report on the streaming industry, showing the explosive growth in connected TV (CTV) ad spend, while ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) services are leading the streaming pack as consumers look to cut subscription costs.
