Google Authenticator now syncs 2FA with your Google Account, gets new icon Google is finally addressing a big gap of its 2FA (two-factor authentication) code app by adding sync capabilities, with Google Authenticator also getting a new icon on Android and iOS today. This will make “one time codes more durable by storing them safely in users’ Google Account.” The app dates back to 2010 and sparingly gets updates. Telefónica and Simmin develop TV roaming

Spain’s Telefónica and Siminn, Iceland’s largest telecommunications operator, have successfully carried out the first proof of concept for TV roaming. Both companies have been able to demonstrate the feasibility of distributing video services with local delivery when the user is on a visited network by interconnecting their CDNs using the Open Caching standard defined by the Streaming Video Technology Alliance (SVTA). The integration based on this standard has been carried out between the Broadpeak CDN, provider of the CDN technology used by Siminn, and Telefonica CDN (TCDN), which is the proprietary technology used by Telefonica to distribute video content in its footprint. NAB 2023: AWS opens new gateway for live video

Looking to improve operations in hybrid environments, providing monitoring, security and management of video feeds, AWS has released Elemental MediaConnect Gateway, a new cloud-connected software application for transmitting live video between on-premises multicast networks. Explaining the reasons for the launch, AWS says delivery of live-video multicast streams between datacentres and the cloud typically requires investment in specialised third-party hardware and software or resources to develop a custom solution. Hughes’ bus-sized satellite promises better broadband in the boonies

Broadband remains a challenge in rural areas beyond the reach of mainstream internet service providers' fiber and cable. But a hulking SpaceX Falcon Heavy rocket is about to hurtle a bus-sized satellite from aerospace firm Hughes into orbit to bring 100 megabit per second speeds to people who can't connect to more ordinary networks. Hughes has provided satellite-based internet access for years with its Jupiter 1 and Jupiter 2 satellites, each in geostationary orbit 22,236 miles above Earth's equator. But their data transfer speeds have been capped at 25Mbps for downloads and 3Mbps for uploads.
