Global AVOD to grow by $50bn

Global AVOD revenues for TV series and movies will reach $91 billion in 2028. This, according to the latest report from Digital TV Research, will be up from $41 billion in 2022. It adds that the US will contribute 41% to the 2028 total, adding $20 billion between 2022 and 2028. The report goes on to say that by 2028 nine platforms will generate AVOD revenues in excess of $3 billion, including five global, three from the US and one from China. OTT revenues to reach $235bn

Global OTT TV episode and movies revenues are forecast to reach $235 billion in 2028. This, according to the latest report from Digital TV Research, will be up by $81 billion from last year’s $154 billion, with $17 billion being added in 2023 alone. AVOD will grow faster than SVOD, with revenues reaching $91 billion by 2028, up by $50 billion from $41 billion in 2022. This growth is nearly twice as much as SVOD. Apple TV+ growth slows in US while Netflix loses first place

A JustWatch research study revealed last month that Apple TV+’s global market share shrank in 2022 as the platform was overtaken by Paramount+. And according to a new report, Apple TV+ growth also slowed in the US – and Netflix lost the top spot in the ranking. TV streaming sees highest growth in 5 months

A study by Barclays Bank has shown that while grocery spending tracking far below food price inflation, digital content & subscriptions has seen its highest growth since October 2022. Spending on digital content and subscriptions increased by 4.1%, driven by the latest season premieres of popular shows such as Succession, Ted Lasso and The Mandalorian. Esme Harwood, Director at Barclays, said: “The below-inflation rise in grocery spending shows that Brits are still trying their hardest to shave money off their weekly shop, as energy bills continue to rise. Digital consumer services market to top USD 500 bln by 2027

Non-traditional consumer services markets such as digital gaming, online video, messaging apps, smart home, and digital music are set to continue growing at CAGRs of 5-21 percent over the next five years, according to new research from Omdia. The categories have yet to match the value of established telco services such as mobile data, pay TV and broadband, but will still be worth some USD 513 billion by 2027 thanks above all to surging digital gaming and online video sales, said the study. Smart TVs pass 200 MN milestone

Confirming smart TVs’ growth in presence and in use, the fifth annual wave of Hub Entertainment Research’s Connected Home study has revealed that American homes now own an estimated 204 million smart TV sets. The Connected Home 2023 report was based on a survey conducted among 5,026 US consumers in February 2023 and cover consumer ownership of many types of media-related technologies. UK Video Game Sector Sees Downturn to $8.8 Billion, Yet There's Reason to be Optimistic UK trade group UKIE reports a 5.6% drop in the value of the video game industry in the UK throughout 2022.
