Amazon to launch MGM+ in Europe
Amazon has signed a “strategic content deal” with Lionsgate that will enable the rollout of MGM+ International in selected European markets.
The parcels-to-showbiz company has secured the rights to a late of popular Lionsgate and Starz series including the Power franchise, Mad Men and Nashville.
MGM+ International will debut in Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain and The Netherlands. Monthly subscriptions of €3.99 will be offered through Prime Video Channels. Subscribers to Lionsgate+ who joined the streaming service via Prime Video Channels will be transferred to the new platform, enabling Lionsgate to step back from markets where it previously announced it would be withdrawing Lionsgate+.
“Following the relaunch of MGM+ in the US at the start of the year, we have seen significant growth in subscribers,” said Amazon executive Chris Brearton, VP Prime Video Studios Corporate Strategy. “Now MGM’s international streaming services will follow suit and relaunch as MGM+ International in key countries where we are making further content investments to capitalize on the strength of the iconic brand and accelerate our growth as a premium international SVOD service.”
The former MGM streaming platform, EPIX relaunched as MGM+ in the United States on January 15, 2023.
