Google’s holographic project Starline shrinks to the size of a TV

While most people have chosen to avoid wearing VR and AR headsets for one-on-one group chats, Google's Project Starline envisions some sort of happy medium between corporate Zooms and a future of floating holograms. The glasses-free 3D technology, which I got to demo last year, was originally designed to be a room-size installation. The latest prototype shown at Google's I/O developer conference now shows it's shrunken to the size of a large TV. According to a Google blog post, the new prototypes are already being tested in trial groups at Salesforce, T-Mobile and WeWork. The goal is to shrink the experience down to something closer to a "more traditional video conferencing system." Starline, created by some of the Google team [...]

What is Wi-Fi 7 ?

Wireless technology has upgraded at a rapid speed over the past few years. Hardly a few years after the Wi-Fi 6 release, the Wi-Fi association is now set up to release the latest wireless standard known as Wi-Fi 7. This advancement will not only provide increased speed but also greatly enhance the responsiveness for cutting-edge future technologies and immersive customer experiences. Wi-Fi 7 is the next generation of Wi-Fi technology and is still developing. But there are some new features that we can expect from Wi-Fi 7, and today we’re going to talk about them and how Wi-Fi 7 is better than Wi-Fi 6/6E. En savoir plus

Norwegians paying more than ever for TV and streaming

The average amount paid by Norwegian households for TV and streaming content has risen to a record NOK 602 per month, according to a new report from the Nordic consultancy Mediavision. The figure represents an increase of 3% on the same period last year. Mediavision says the increase can be attributed to an insatiable demand for SVOD services, rather than general price increases. As in other parts of the Nordic region, operator packages or bundles, are helping to increase demand. Across the Nordic region, Norway holds the record for the average number of SVOD subscriptions per household. “Households’ appetite for media, and in particular streaming, remains high”, says Fredrik Liljeqvist, senior analyst at Mediavision. “We see this in all the [...]

Google is emphasizing personal experience with ‘Perspectives’ in Search

Searching for results that directly apply to you in Google Search is a familiar gamble. Now, with the aid of generative AI, Google is starting to push more personal results with a new “Perspectives” filter. The idea is pretty simple. When searching for something through Google, users are often looking for results that are directly relatable, not necessarily general information. Oftentimes, a search results in tons of articles that can be helpful, but lack a personal touch, which can be disconnecting and ultimately disappointing. Using generative AI, Google is starting to shift what is displayed in Search results for users. Under a new “Perspectives” filter, Google Search results that originate from people with real-life experiences will appear as a priority, [...]

YouTube videos coming to Android automotive cars

Google are introducing a new improvement to both Android Auto and Android Automotive, allowing those wanting Google-based services in their car to get new features, such as watching YouTube. Android Auto projects content from the users phone, whether through a wireless or wired connection. It Google’s “answer” to Apple’s CarPlay and will not work without the users phone. Android Automotive is a version that automatically runs in the car as the main infotainment, with or without a phone. Here’s a look into what’s new and coming for each of these systems: ANDROID AUTO: Google have announced Android Auto will be available in almost 200 million cars by the end of the year. The updates are not huge, however, will include [...]

Google TV and Android TV apps get a new design language

When Android TV debuted back in 2014, many apps on the platform shared the same design language, but that disappeared over time as that UI became dated. Now, at I/O 2023, Google is introducing a new set of components for app developers to speed up developing apps for Android TV OS that brings a new look for those apps. Google is introducing a new set of design guidelines for apps built for Android TV OS – the underlying platform for Android TV and Google TV. The new guidelines give developers a point of reference when designing for the platform and include a few key elements: Buttons Cards Featured carousel Immersive lists (with visual content) Lists (with text content) Navigation drawer [...]
