HbbTV takes off in Poland
The number of homes in Poland with an active HbbTV connection has now passed 1.3 million.
Speaking to Wirtualne Media, Jaroslaw Mroczkowski, the strategic advisor at the national transmission company Emitel, added that a milestone in HbbTV development took place in December 2018 with the launch of a service aimed at the supporters of the football club Legia Warsaw.
This proved to be very popular among DTT viewers and caught the attention of broadcasters, who could see the potential of HbbTV.
Emitel launched its first HbbTV service in 2016, since when they have been also introduced by the public broadcaster TVP and leading national commercial stations Polsat and TVN.
HbbTV was also given a boost in Poland by last year’s transition to the DVB-T2 standard.
